The Beantown Basers, established in 2002, are one of the "Original Two" Bambuu teams. Legend tells that many years ago, a group of friends from the City of Boston started playing pickup games on Sundays against their friends from Roslindale & Jamaica Plain. Soon, the games became more organized, and the Boston Amateur Baseballers' Union was officially established. The Boston group became The Basers and the Roslindale / JP crew became The Ruck - and they have been rivals ever since.
The name "Basers" comes from "the Base" - a term the Boston group used to describe its headquarters in Mission Hill. "Baseheads" was considered, but was deemed inappropriate for the League's younger fans. However, family values were later eradicated from the league as expansion introduced teams named "Hustlers", "Dirtbagz", and most recently, "Maggots".
The Basers team colors and logo, an olde English "B" on a blue background, are a tribute to the 1911 Boston Rustlers. The Rustlers were named after their owner, William Russel, and existed for just one year before changing their name to the Boston Braves; today, they are the Atlanta Braves.
As a team, the Basers have always been known for patience at the plate, smart defense, and solid pitching. Their home field is Jefferson Field in Roxbury.
In the first four seasons of the league, the Basers reached the Finals three times, only to fall short of the coveted Bambuu Cup.
The Basers were Founded and are still Managed by Spencer S. Sánchez of East Boston and Daniel B. Weldon of Mission Hill.
