The 2008 Bambuu All-Star Game & Home Run Derby was played yesterday at Jefferson Field in Boston. In a close and low-scoring game, the New Skoolers came away with the victory in the late innings. The Saints' Mark Jackman crushed a 2-run homer for the New Skoolers, while The Basers' Dale Kochevar delivered a solo shot for the Old Schoolers.

The Hustlers' Andrew Hubbard won the first annual Home Run Derby. In the final round, "Hubbs" launched 4 consecutive home runs onto the roof of the school in left center as the rest of the league looked on in disbelief.

Award winners for 2008 were also announced. The Hustlers collected more hardware with Best Pitcher (Josh Bilbrey), MVP (Andrew Hubbard), and Batting Champ (Mark McHugh). Dan Weldon (Basers) won Manager of the Year.

Spencer Sanchez and Dan Weldon also became the first inductees into the Bambuu Hall of Fame.

Congratulations to everyone on a great season!

SUNDAY BLOODY SUNDAY
Four teams will play Sunday, and only two will make the playoffs

With the Dirtbagz and Basers already in the playoffs, the fate of all four remaining contenders will be decided this Sunday in what promises to be the most exciting regular season finale in Bambuu history.

There are 64 different outcomes possible - but to keep things simple, the Fenway Hustlers and New Hampshire 603’s control their own destinies, while the Boston Redsleeves and South End Saints need to win out and get help. The Quincy Maggots and Bay State Ruck can play the spoiler, especially the Maggots with two games left against desperate playoff contenders.

Though we haven\'t finalized the format, we have a date and a field (specific info will be released soon). I can tell you that online voting is a great idea but not realistically doable for this year.

As for how the teams are comprised, I think the general consensus is that each team will be made up of 4 players from 4 teams, giving a 16 man roster on each side. Which teams play together and how the players are chosen are still up in the air. One way of splitting them up is by final standings, another is the older teams vs the newer teams, and I\'m sure there are other ideas out there too.

We can have the managers of each team be those who managed in the final the year before, or have them pick a coaching staff or whatever....we can o really whatever we want.

We can have each team nominate candidates, but ultimately I think the managers should put together the rosters so as to make sure we have at least one and not too many catchers, pitchers, etc. Luckily, a lot of the best guys in our league can play multiple positions, which would make that process a little easier.

Lastly, we should give nods to those guys who we think should umpire the game (all-star players excluded, of course). We can even have one at every base!

I\'ll put out an email to the managers tonight to get all this moving along. Any ideas send to either Alex Shear or me.

cadams :: http://bambuu.com/?m=121 Has there been any word on how the All-Star game is going to be played? In addition to that, how are we doing the voting this year for who plays? I know last year the managers nominated players from their team. Are we going to do this again? Also, beacuse we have an additional 2 teams this year, how many players from each team would we allow to be chosen to play? Lastly, how are we going to choose what players from what teams play together? Would it be the same as last year but just adding players from the two new teams to either side? Let me know if we have any answers to the 15 questions that I just asked. An idea for next year is for players to vote for other players for the All-Star game via the website. We could maybe set it up so you have to login in order to vote. That way we don\'t have someone have ing their friends vote for them 500 times. Personally i would like to nominate 2 people, my very own managers fabian mora and kelvin juarbe. So, why do they deserve your votes. . . Heres the reason to vote for kevlin. . he managed to ruin his own team in a matter of 10 minutes by sticking up for his midget brother and then proclaiming himself king of all that is bambuu.(by the way you shouldnt be able to manage if you are suspended but then again if you impose your own suspension you can do whatever you want) Heres why to vote for fabian. in his infinite wisdom he decided to just go along with the bullshit when he could have squashed it all by not choosing sides. His fellow manager was in trouble and he was there to help him out. Also when imposing the suspensions for what went on he decided to lump me in with the coward who likes to hit people while they are being held down, real tough by the way. post your votes in the dugout please and seriously good luck to the hustlers and their little band of non uniform wearing misfits(besides joe, steve, tony, hubs, mark, and pablo)Look out for me next year because i am still league eligible bitches Thu, 02 Aug 2007 02:48:00 EST http://bambuu.com/#item300 chassey :: http://bambuu.com/?m=121 is there any way to see a playoff schedule, maybe some potential dates Sat, 28 Jul 2007 00:12:00 EST http://bambuu.com/#item293 DSull17 :: http://bambuu.com/?m=121 I\'m loving the stats manager mechanisms. As it was, that game was called early because it got too dark and ended in a tie. In the future if a similar situation arises again, I suggest the manager of the team that is down, if they don\'t want to quit, get the permission of both the other manager and the umpires, and play under the strict understanding that whatever game is scheduled next starts on time, regardless of a comeback. Tue, 01 May 2007 02:40:00 EST http://bambuu.com/#item174 spencer :: http://bambuu.com/?m=121 I heard about that game. Firstly, I\'m not sure the score is right at all, I just put up what someone told me. When we get the official stats in, I\'ll adjust it. I don\'t think that\'s the only game with a wrong score. As for the mercy rule, you are partially correct. There is no longer an inning slaughter rule, though there is a defined game slaughter rule. If one team is ahead by at least 15 runs after the fifth inning, the game is over. From what I understand, this was the case yesterday and the umpire should have called the game after five. Tue, 01 May 2007 02:35:00 EST http://bambuu.com/#item173 chassey :: http://bambuu.com/?m=121 Yesterday the bambuu league opened up the season, and this has been a day that i have been waiting a 10 months for. I do have to say that i was really dissapointed that our game was called early due to the fact that there was another game behind us, when the umpire told us that we could keep playing because we made a comeback. Also I thought that there was no more mercy rule which almost came into effect during our game. Don\'t get me wrong I know all games have to be played, but the fact that we just made a pretty good come back and the game was called right after that in the middle of the fifth inning was pretty absurd. (this is something that should be decided by the umpires and not be influenced by the teams playing behind us) Also I think the teams should pay the extra money to have an official scorer at every game due to the fact that we were being told a totally different score from what was told to us. (this could also be a dirtbag scorer problem) I hope the league takes these things into consideration. Tue, 01 May 2007 01:02:00 EST http://bambuu.com/#item172 YankeeJeff :: http://bambuu.com/?m=121 Congrats to the 603s and all of the teams that made it to the postseason. Thu, 24 Aug 2006 04:39:00 EST http://bambuu.com/#item168 sirkenlord :: http://bambuu.com/?m=121 Let\'s go Redsleeves...I\'m rooting for the team that hasn\'t won a championship... Tue, 22 Aug 2006 09:00:00 EST http://bambuu.com/#item167 RyanP :: http://bambuu.com/?m=121 we are still around and out to play the part of spoilers... Fri, 04 Aug 2006 00:32:00 EST http://bambuu.com/#item163 YankeeJeff :: http://bambuu.com/?m=121 So... Ryan P. posted something elsewhere stating that the Bay State Ruck was no more. The Basers may get tomorrow night off. More information as it is made available. Tue, 18 Jul 2006 02:09:00 EST http://bambuu.com/#item153 rizzy :: http://bambuu.com/?m=121 just wanted to say that last nights game was probably the best and quickest bambuu game ever! Tue, 18 Jul 2006 01:22:00 EST http://bambuu.com/#item152 spencer :: http://bambuu.com/?m=121 Good idea...as it turns out, \"games behind\" is what should be used to determine the standings, not winning percentage. Consider it done. Mon, 17 Jul 2006 16:47:00 EST http://bambuu.com/#item150 DSull17 :: http://bambuu.com/?m=121 Hey Spence, Do you think the Standings could include a \"Games Back\" column? That would be nice. Mon, 17 Jul 2006 14:45:00 EST http://bambuu.com/#item149 bugbase :: http://bambuu.com/?m=121 We have Westie High from 10am to 4pm and Billings at 4pm this Sunday so if anyone wants to try to do a makeup this weekend let us know so we can arrange for umps and work out a schedule. Spence has been working on organizing a scrimmage against the squad from Maine so we need to make sure there are no conflicts. Mon, 26 Jun 2006 17:17:00 EST http://bambuu.com/#item145 RyanP :: http://bambuu.com/?m=121 can we get any make-ups in this weekend? Mon, 26 Jun 2006 12:38:00 EST http://bambuu.com/#item143 denavila :: http://bambuu.com/?m=121 mother nature does not want us to play the redsleeves. Sun, 25 Jun 2006 18:15:00 EST http://bambuu.com/#item142 YankeeJeff :: http://bambuu.com/?m=121 thanks to mr. sanchez for allowing the ruck umpires to play this week. even before the schedule switch, i was trying to figure out how in the world we could possibly get from one field to the other and start the game on time. much appreciated. Wed, 21 Jun 2006 08:21:00 EST http://bambuu.com/#item137 SteveBoyle :: http://bambuu.com/?m=121 Apparently, according to ryan P., they're mowing the grass at Billings today. Which is MUCH needed, because i kid you not- angel literally LOST a ball in left field in the tall grass last night. Fabian chased after one in short right where the grass was higher than his socks... is there anyway we can ask them to maintain the field just a tidbit more? Tue, 20 Jun 2006 17:10:00 EST http://bambuu.com/#item135 bugbase :: http://bambuu.com/?m=121 We need more people to volunteer to ump, especially for the weeks when there are 3 Sunday games. Having only 1 guy from the Dbags and no one from the Sleeves complicates scheduling. Tue, 20 Jun 2006 10:58:00 EST http://bambuu.com/#item131 RyanP :: http://bambuu.com/?m=121 after all this spence.... we were actually(supposed to be) the home team? ....that really , really sucks ass! Tue, 20 Jun 2006 00:32:00 EST http://bambuu.com/#item129 SteveBoyle :: http://bambuu.com/?m=121 I dont know what others are talking about spence... i think the front page looks absolutely perfect. Mon, 19 Jun 2006 18:15:00 EST http://bambuu.com/#item125 ashear7 :: http://bambuu.com/?m=121 (1) Key is for the umps to actually show up on time or call ahead of time when they can't. I like to ump, I will whenever I can, and it also pays $20. That's practically free money, you get to see pitches, and you get to scout the other teams. Most importantly, you are helping your friends in the league. If you email Spence a time or two you can ump, it can fit exactly into your schedule. (2) Re: the tie, props to Spence and Tiner for declaring a final inning at the top of the 8th, which is exactly what you should do in that situation (once it arises). We learned this through years of experience. Mon, 19 Jun 2006 17:57:00 EST http://bambuu.com/#item121 cadams :: http://bambuu.com/?m=121 Part of the problem too is when one game get's started late or one game has like a 17-10 score, the other game that follow that one get pushed back and then it screws verything up. I know we can't help when we have a really high scoring game but when something like that is going on we need to kepp the between inning BS real short. For example, if you are going to make a pitching change, have the person that is going to replace your current pitcher warming up when your at bat. That way they can come in and need little warm ups. Personaly I feel like getting in some infeild, throwing, stretching, etc. before the game is important. We are not all in the best shape and without that, we will have some injuries as a result. I think that this can be fixed by just makeing some minor adjustments to pre-game and during that game routeans. We should have a discussion about this. I don;t think it's right to have anyones game cut short. Especially we it results in the game ending in a tie. There is no ties in baseball. It sould stay that way in BAMBUU. Mon, 19 Jun 2006 16:40:00 EST http://bambuu.com/#item119 spencer :: http://bambuu.com/?m=121 I definitely think we could do a better job of starting on time. I don't think the "1 run every 15 minutes" rule has applied yet because most late starts were because of bad fields, late umpires, or late players on both teams. I think the sooner we start getting these games off on time when we can help it, the better. Mon, 19 Jun 2006 16:01:00 EST http://bambuu.com/#item118 RyanP :: http://bambuu.com/?m=121 4 of our games so far have been called early or w/o conclusion due to no lights/darkness; and for various reasons none of the 7 games we've played have started on time....I think this needs to be addressed, any thoughts from the dugout? Mon, 19 Jun 2006 14:57:00 EST http://bambuu.com/#item116 RyanP :: http://bambuu.com/?m=121 I'm not going to even comment about the absurdity of our tie with the Basers (rivals? what rivals?)....BUT, how about trying to come up with a date for our rain-out Spence? you and i should be able to hammer something out .... and great F'in job with this site by the way, it has come SOOOO far these last couple of years, and it's sick ... love ya spence , but no more kisses Mon, 19 Jun 2006 14:37:00 EST http://bambuu.com/#item112 cadams :: http://bambuu.com/?m=121 Great job with the site Spence. It has added a whole different aspect of the league now. It's great to see all of the stats, write-ups, schedules, standings, and results of all the games. I am pumped it is finally off the ground. I know it wil only get better as the league progresses. Much appreciation for all the hard work!! You might want to start a disabled list too. Seeings that I might be on it after yesterday's game against the Sleeves. Mon, 19 Jun 2006 11:56:00 EST http://bambuu.com/#item108 DSull17 :: http://bambuu.com/?m=121 Spence, I've found one problem. Most people are getting tired of looking at Kelvin and Steve Boyle's grin in that Championship pic on the front page. Maybe it's time for a new headlining story/photo? Perhaps a intimate interview with a RedSleeve - the kind that everyone will be talking about.
