It was a nail-biter pretty much all the way. 603s held a 3-run lead for about 15 minutes after trailing 2-0 in the 1st. Saints cut it to 2 in the 5th, loaded the bases with 2 outs in the 6th, and then cut it to 1 in the 7th w/ a 1 out double.

Pitcher's duels even at 2-2 for the year.

My toe started to hurt a little but it's fine. Perry ended up fracturing his hand on that diving catch in the last inning. He rolled over it and it swelled up, he got an xray the next day and now he's likely done for the season. That catch was awesome though. Thu, 30 Jul 2009 10:56:00 EST http://bambuu.com/#item906 maggot_brendan :: Maggots at 603s 07/28/09 http://bambuu.com/?m=51&gid=287 OK, I got it. Our book had some weird things in it that I was trying to make sense of. Tucci's error was on the throw, I think you can decide whether or not the throw would've beaten you to the base if it were on target. That article is very helpful and I go back to it a few times throughout the season to remind myself. The MLB rulebook is more specific but harder to read and make sense of. etiner8623 :: Maggots at 603s 07/28/09 http://bambuu.com/?m=51&gid=287 Thanks B,
I didn't get a chance to look at anything last night, but I just read the wikipedia article and bookmarked it cuz its super helpful.
I think we're just scoring it differently. I didn't see it, but unless Tucci muffed my bunt his only error was on the throw. But I did see Justin's ball and I don't remember an error on it. We both have Paul for a H, and Andy's AB went flyball E8, but he was retired 8-6-2-5 when trying to advance on the throw.
If the next guy K'd -and it's all dawning on me now- we'd have 1ER... unless you tell me Tucci missplayed my bunt, but i know the ump was calling me safe as the throw went behind me. I just didn't see the fielding attempt and went with what the book said.
PHEW... longest comment ever, but I think we're good now? oh ya... E7 was Welch

So after 6 batters there was only one hit and 5 outs. Even if you score your bunt a single and that the runners advanced on the errant throw there are still enough outs to make none of the runs earned. I'm not sure if I know exactly when we changed pitchers. I don't remember if Kevin faced 1 or 2 hitters before ending the fourth. Hopefully your book indicates that. Otherwise, I'll ask Kev and get back to you.

That'd make it 16-12, and I'd have no error... heh. You can see my motives. STATS!

The Halperin error must have been in the 6th since Donnie got an unearned run.

Hoe did Cliff score after his triple without it being an error on someone? Since the next guy got a hit that makes that run still earned but he scored on an error by someone.

I scored Cliff's 2nd at bat as a fc with an error, not a hit.

Sennet went home in the 4th inning on an overthrow to 3rd that went out of play. Again, an error on someone. Also still an earned run as he would have scored on Andy's hit but someone should get the error.

Al dropping the ball that became the Jose homerun is fine. I thought it was an error (and so did Al) as he had it lined up and then just fell down, but others said that they thought it was a hr.

For names: Rusty is the e6s and Brewster is the E4.
Also, I think you should have either an e5 or e3 for the last run of the 5th inning. It was the play you guys scored your 4th run on; grounder to third, throw was a little off the base to allow the man to reach and the run (4th) to score. So A.T. should only have 3ER as well.
and... if you really want to get technical you should have an E9 for me misplaying Beau's 1st inning hit allowing him to get to second. I only mention it because if I'd have picked it clean he probably doesn't even try for 2.

In the third Boudreau reached on an E8 (Perry) which lead to another unearned. In the sixth Colin grounded into a 6-4 FC but the second baseman (Menjivar) made a throwing error which lead to one unearned run scoring. And in the 7th Sennett grounded back to the pitcher (McAllister) who threw the ball away allowing everyone to be safe and later that inning Boudreau was able to score on a throwing error from right field (Quiton). For pitching that makes Donahue (2 ER), Johnston (2 ER), and McAllister (0 ER). I did not arrive until the 5th inning and we did not keep a book for your side so I put together a pitching line for Dale based on what you entered for offense. I also entered two errors which I witnessed in the 6th by our shortstop and our 2nd baseman, both of which I think made the 3 runs unearned, or at least 2 of the 3. I do not know if we had any other errors earlier in the game before I got there. I also don't know if Dale had any passed balls.

Clean up the stats if you have anything else to add in terms of errors, earned runs and passed balls. Thanks.

The missed DP ball hit by Richard in the sixth was a wierd one. You can't assume the DP, but that applies if the error is made trying to record the out at second. we made that play clean and the error was E3 or E6 (depending on your preference) trying to make the second out.
Justin had a long way to go on Kenny's ball (still hit his glove) so I guess that could be a hit, but Mike's ball to Welch was an error all the way

YankeeJeff :: 603s at Ruck 08/05/08 http://bambuu.com/?m=51&gid=197 Hey, Chris-

There were indeed some errors, but we only had 9 guys, so nobody was keeping score for your offense on our bench... and I didn't think to write down who was positioned where for you guys. I didn't know who to credit with them.

I have an E6 in the 2nd, and an E4 and E3 in the 7th (when we scored 5 runs, both before Eric came in to pitch. I also have a PB that I forgot to enter in the 7th (DiCicco) that moved 2 runners.

That is only 3 Es and a PB that we had made a note of.

I noticed that you've handed our pitchers with an extra run against them as opposed to the actual score. The "statistical errors" box is up now, too... I guess I forgot a few other things, too. I'll try to get that under control.

I am pretty sure that we made some errors as well. If you list what errors you have for us, I can let you know who they belong to.

Thanks.

Therefore Kenny could not have scored from 3rd on the play, he should have been sent back to third.

Since that run does not effect the outcome of the game and the next batter struck out, I did not credit Kenny with the run awarded to him by the umpires.

Also, AJ had brought up the scenario where a base runner could intentionally come in contact with a batted ball in order to avoid a double play...the rule states that if in the umpire's discretion that is what occurred the runner who touched the ball is out and the batter is out.

You see something new every game.

The error by Mike Mac in the 7th allowed Milton to go from 2nd to 3rd. He hit the single to right to score Kevin, moved up to 2nd on the throw and the throw was cut off and went back to 2nd but was overthrown or missed by Mike Mac (can't remember the play exactly) allowing him to move to 3rd. Also, if you scored it that way I think that would make Milton's run unearned as he would not have scored from 2nd on a ground out to 3rd and a ground out to short.

I assume your run in the 2nd is the unearned one you scored originally.

bugbase :: Basers at Maggots 07/13/08 http://bambuu.com/?m=51&gid=181 Overlooking the fact that the ump probably blew the call (which is probably the best way to score that play) something allowed that runner to move up to 2nd. I thought Burden had him so either the throw was offline and pulled him off the bag (what I thought happened since I originally charged the error to Richie) or Burden dropped the ball (the umps explanation for calling the guy safe). I figured the ump's explanation (however valid) is the better choice. A curve ball is thrown off the index finger or middle finger with a top down snapping motion, and the knuckles are not visible. Plus, "Knuckle-curveballer Mark Fuery" or "Screwballer Mark Fuery" or "Junk baller Mark Fuery" just sound ridiculous. bugbase :: Maggots at Basers 05/18/08 http://bambuu.com/?m=51&gid=140 If it were not for the errors we should have been out of the 2nd inning by like the 4th batter and no runs would have scored, which I thought would make all 8 runs unearned. Maybe I do not understand earned versus unearned correctly (very possible). I don't have the book in front of me either.

2nd inning:
E5's Anthony Genao
E7 Alex Shear
E8 Mike Bowden

5th:
E4 Pete Alsis

6th:
E5 Colin MacAlpine
E6 Mike McNamara

I'll look at my book and see how it compares but ultimately it is your call anyway. I definitely had one on our right fielder: single to right, he overthrew the cut off, the ball got away and the runner moved up from 1st to 2nd. I was also in the field the last 2 innings so didn't get to score my own version. Would help if I had the book regardless. No problem though, not worth laboring over. Ugly game all around.

I didn't have an error for James there. Was it a throwing error or fielding error?
I changed the last pitcher to G. Madden.
The error in the 5th was with two outs and Brewster batting. gounded to short (I think) and 1b dropped the throw which would have had Tim if caught.
Also, Brendan Winn pitched the 6th and 7th for us.
Thanks again... E

RyanP :: Ruck at 603s 05/18/08 http://bambuu.com/?m=51&gid=142 Eric a difference I see between our scorebook and the stats above is an error by james smith (cf) in the 6th that would make 3 of the runs charged to Pat unearned, also G.Madden pitched the end of the game not Marty
and I do not have an error for our 1st base in the fifth, but I could have missed it I suppose, K.Gorman was playing there at the time i believe

additionally, if Paul didn't pitch the whole game, jet let me know who else did and what inning they came in, and I'll fix it - Thx

In the second inning I have 3 E5's, an E7 and an E8 but only 3 of them result in someone reaching base. One is a double error and the other is a person advancing on a throw but not to score. I also have 5 hits, and a walk leading to 4 earned.

Later in the game I have an E4 in the 5th, an E5 in the 6th, and an E6 in the 6th.

So for Johnny that's 4 in the 2nd, 1 in the 4th, and 2 more in the 6th totalling 7 Earned. That's what's in my book. That doesn't mean it's correct but it's what's in it. I can list what it says for each batter in the inning and we can compare them. Feel free to send me an e-mail.

We either make an effort to finish tied or suspended games at a later date or we go by the major league rule which would make the game revert back to the last complete inning. This might not eliminate all ties but I\'m assuming it would make it less likely.

Even if we were both .500 you would have had head to head record, head to head runs and total runs scored so you still would have got in over us.

Best of luck Dbagz!

Dave Casilli and Mike Margarucci both rode by there on their way home from Millenium and reported back to me that there was no one there. The West Roxbury Yawkey Team (that has been filing the complaints about us) is currently in the playoffs against Somerville (down 0-3 in a best of 7 series thank you very much Somerville) but their game on Wednesday was away in Somerville. What a waste. I sent the Parks guy an email complaining that people are booking these permits and then not using the fields but got no response. Also love NH as stated above and was just kidding, we have a player who hails from NH ourselves if you didn\'t already know that. And what\'s wrong with liking men? (J/K)

I appreciate you not turning this into a bitch fest, I just love a good debate and can\'t sit by and let my team get slandered or treated unfairly. As a professional reporter, the slanted coverage in the above recap is going to catch my ire every time.

I think sometimes people mistake Mark\'s good natured BS\'ing for trouble-making, but if you hung around with the guy a bit you\'d realize he\'s extremely funny and just likes to mess around with people. But I guess that\'s hard to expect of people if they don\'t know the guy like we do.

All of this stuff is best left settled and talked about between the lines. You guys have a good team and so do we, so, good luck making it into the playoffs, clearly this rivalry has now officially gone to the next level, and in a good way hopefully, so it will/would be fun to renew the battle on the diamond.

Last time I checked the Sleeves were in first and the team to beat so I guess we should all be more focused on that than anything else.

Take it easy.

I\'m glad you did some research about where we are from before making an ignorant comment about where we are from. It seems like you are an intelligent person. Do you hear us make assumptions that you guys are partial to men because you’re from the South End? Nope, because I don\'t know you or where you are from so have some class and do pretend to know shit about where we are from.

Despite what you might think it wasn’t sour grapes. Yes, you guys beat us regardless of who you brought out there and I am totally cool with that. You guys have a great team and NO ONE is bitching!! The first year we had a team in the league we went 13-2 and beat everyone and there was never a whisper about the kids that we brought down there and never once came under scrutiny. Weird how it’s happening to you and didn’t happen to us right?

The fact is you guys have a great team without having someone that throws in the mid 80\'s down there. Take a look at the game he was pitched, has ANYONE even remotely has any success at the plate against him? NOPE!! You guys didn\'t need a pitcher like that and still don’t to win in this league. It\'s amazing to me that with a team of intelligent adults, one of whom which is an MIT graduate, can\'t see that HE IS TOO GOOD FOR THIS LEAGUE!!!

The reason for the \"whinering\" as you like to call it is that after he is told that he can’t pitch...he now will not stop talking!!! He runs his mouth more than anyone I have ever played with or against. He’s whining just as bad if not more but you don’t see it that way. Have you ever seen any other games in which our team or any other teams in the league get into it like this? The answer is NO!!! What pisses me off even more is that not a player on your team notices or cares about it.

We are not bitching about Cliff or anyone else on your team. When you listen to someone run his mouth for long enough someone is eventually going to tell him to shut it. There are plenty of rivalries in this league and we talk back and fourth but at the end of the day...we are all friends.

I\'m all for the competition in this league. However, there are instances where people are to good to play, especially pitch in this league PERIOD!!! Your boy is bitching and \"whinering\" just the same all game very game since he was voted to be ineligible to pitch. How many times have I heard the same \"let\'s vote on it\" joke in the last 3 weeks. Last time I checked we weren’t talking shit or making fun of one of your players during that game. If I\'m wrong then you tell me. Now that someone does the same to one of your players look what you do? Don\'t be a hypocrite about this shit.

It\'s good to have more teams in the league and better competition. I\'m all for it but don’t think the 603\'s are sour and bitching about loosing to your team. We are no the only people that have a problem with some of the shit that goes on with a few of your players during the game. We are just the ones saying something about it. I hope we do see you in the playoffs so we can play again. Let\'s leave the non-stop talking at home and we will too. What do you think?

As far as the Saints are concerned this was over when the game ended. Clearly others felt the need to carry on. But it\'s over baby!

Play ball!

spencer :: 603s at Saints 08/05/07 http://bambuu.com/?m=51&gid=117 Hinesy! Hey, I may be moving to NH within a couple of years, and rest assured there will be no rusting auto chassis in our front yard.

All joking aside, the abilities to post game recaps and comments were not intended to be a forum for personal attacks, so I think we are done here. Whatever you guys need to work out do it on your own time.

That\'s the end of it. Thank you.

hinesy :: 603s at Saints 08/05/07 http://bambuu.com/?m=51&gid=117 Tiner the Whiner loves to leave out a lot of details, but perhaps it\'s just the residual affect of all that poisoned groundwater in NH, what with an auto chassis rusting in every front yard. (Apologies to J. Sennett)

We hear all about how the 603s were outmanned by a bunch of college players, but yet, whose own brother still has their player profile up online? Ahem: http://www.rivier.edu/athletics/teams/mens_baseball.aspx?id=3246

Cry me a Rivier, and hold the volleyball please, because the only thing that the Saints spike is their Gatorade. Roscoe played at MIT? MIT? Didn\'t those guys lose to Cal State Fullerton in Nebraska last year? In the science fair?

Whiner whines about Scott, who has pitched for the Saints in 4 games, including the football-style loss to the Ruck, and who his team summarily shelled and ran out of the game before he could get an out. It would have been nicer to the 603s if the Saints left him in there and took a loss right? Sorry that Big Will, who has also appeared in multiple games without previous complaint, came in and got you out with a bunch of 40 mph changeups down the middle. He was so Gagne-esque I almost found myself speaking French. Mon Dieu!

Whiner also leaves out the fact that the Saints left about 15 men on base, including at least 6 at the hands of their 33yo right fielder who hasn\'t played organized hardball in over a decade and who K\'d with the bases loaded on a 15 mph change-up. Or the back-up outfielder who never got an AB because a ball hit off his glove while taking warm-ups and gave him a very bloodied nose. What a crew of hired guns! But that wouldn\'t fit the poor-me rant.

The 603s seem like a good team, they show up on time in uniform and play hard. Not a lot of BS other than the incessant Whiner-ing from a certain aspiring sports scribe whose pitching and hitting were admirable in a tough loss -- one that easily could have been avoided if the 603\'s infield hadn\'t misplayed so many groundballs early in the game. No disrespect to those guys either, but that\'s how the ball bounces. The Saints have lost games this season because they made a lot of errors too. Defense is the real differentiator in this league if anyone hadn\'t already noticed.

The Saints have come under constant scrutiny all season for one reason - nobody likes it when the new guys turn out to be better than you thought. We\'ve been called cheaters and trust-fund kids because there\'s a perception that we\'re a group of young guns recruited by B and Lucas to fix the league. The truth is that it\'s a bunch of bartenders and their friends who had a sum total of one practice together before this season started.

As a first year player I\'ve really enjoyed the level-competition in this league. I got struck out twice last week by a guy who was smoking butts on the mound during warm-ups. That is everything that is Bambuu to me, and I commend Spence and Dan for putting such a cool, well-balanced league together.

For the sake of competition it would be nice to see the champs get to defend their title. But the whimpering just smacks of pettiness.

I think we all know that the above story is not a true representation of the actual make-up of the 603s. Too bad that people unfamiliar with the rules of objectivity necessary to cover sports or any news in an objective light have been given free reign to espouse their opinions of another team in this forum as such.

In the end it just sounds like so much sour grapes.

Big blast powers Basers to third straight win

Healy Field, ROSLINDALE - Desperately in need of a win to keep their playoff hopes alive, the Beantown Basers had their hands full on Sunday in their rematch against the South End Saints and undefeated starter Cliff Roscow. But the Basers got another solid outing from starter Johnny Greenwell and chose a great time for their first home run of the season, a mammoth 2-run shot from 1B Mike Margarucci that broke a 3-3 tie and handed Roscow his first loss of the season.

Game Notes:

> Saints starter Cliff Roscow recorded 14 strikeouts and 4 walks in 6 innings pitched. Roscow also went 2-for-3 with 1 RBI and 1 run scored.
> Saints C Luke Axelson went 2-for-3 with a triple and 1 RBI. Axelson also threw out a runner attempting to steal second (the Basers\' only attempt of the game).
> (unofficial) Basers had their first error-free game of the season.
> (unofficial) Baser starter Johnny Greenwell scattered 10 hits in 7 innings with 3 strikeouts and 1 walk. Greenwell recorded 11 ground ball outs (21 total).
> Basers did not allow a run after the first inning.
> Basers turned two double plays, their first and second of the season.

They scored 3 in the top frame, and the Ruck countered with 12 in the bottom of the inning to end the game being up by 15 as the home team.

It's not a triple, double officially. It's a double or single and an advance on a throw. also, runs that may result after the hit, but NOT explicitly from the hit itself are not RBI. again, I don't care that much, but most of you who know me know i am a man of principles :). and those were two obvious examples. I had to try and dig the ball out of the dirt beacuse of a bad throw. That is not considered an error on my part. If teh second baseman throws the ball in the dirt and I don't pick it out, it's not scored E-3. It would be E-4. That is not considered a routene play to make. So it shouldn't be charged as an error. There was a conversation I heard someone and Paul having about scoring his grounder to third a hit when it was clearly an error. Paul, being honest, told whoever to score that an error. It was things like that I was talking about. Like I said, I just want it done right. We are not being bitter about yesterday and I am by no means accusing anyone of doing that. It was a hell of game and I give your team props for pulling out a win yesterday. It was a hard played game and you guys were the better team on Sunday. I am just concerned with people putting their personal stats ahead of what actualy happened. They are only BAMBUU stats. When we get a BAMBUU fantasy league started, then they might be more important. I am putting it to bed. Again, great game yesterday and I am looking forward to the rubber match on 7/16. Not for nothing but when I hear you guys telling each other to score this and that as a hit when it shouldn't be, that just dosen't seem fair. I heard more than one conversation yesterday about how you should score certain plays. It's not MBL here. It's just BAMBUU. The stats page is sick, don't get me wrong, but it should be what actualy happened in the game, not what look best in the box score. I don't remember what inning it was but the was a grounder to your right. Doogs was slow to cover, but you misplayed it. That's what i remember anyway. I think by this point we all know at least a few players on each of the other teams, and can ask if we don't know someone else's name. Thu, 01 Jun 2006 22:03:00 EST http://bambuu.com/#item55 YankeeJeff :: Ruck at 603s 05/28/06 http://bambuu.com/?m=51&gid=22 this has been a re-occurring phenomenon. the scorebooks never mention when someone switches defensive positions, so if you subbed in or out, your teammate might have flubbed one and you got "credit" for it. also, some theorize that anyone involved in a play in which an error is made has been given a scarlet E. (for example if the SS makes an error on the throw, it might get marked "E 6-3" or something similar in the book and the 1B also gets the E... or even gets the error instead of the SS.) these are the theories. it isn't a perfect system, but unless someone wants to bring in statisticians, it may never be perfected. oh well. if there is a bright side to this for you, it is that you are far from the first person to fall victim to the phantom error. i just hope i land a phantom double or two sometime. i could use it. ...or even better, the ruck getting a mysterious and elusive W. at this point, i'd take it.
